Our prayers have been answered: a more diverse selection of emojis is coming. Wile still in the hands of software developers, Apple’s update includes multiple skin tones, hair colors, new country flags and family composition.
As Bailey mentioned, this update has been a long time coming and was a great PR move for Apple. Multicultural emoji options are mutually beneficial solution to societal pressures and business strategies. However, complaints are already piling up regarding Apple’e neglected representation of redheads and different hair textures.
Its crazy when you think about how a simple ” 🙂 ” has transformed into an issue of insuring racial diversity and political correctness. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the new emojis. I think diversity is extremely important. But at the same time, people will never be completely satisfied. If they don’t have a problem with one thing, they will find a problem with another. It’s got to be a lot of pressure, for Apple, to accommodate so many people. But I get the hair thing; I mean, if the Nintendo Wii was able to do it back in 2006, Apple can probably find a way.
I don’t really use the people emojis, so my big concern is whether or not they diversified the food emojis?? I want to see tacos, margaritas, sushi and bacon!!
